My computer at home overheated and died, and the hard drive is dead. This is bad, as it has many digital photos on it that I had never backed up, among other things I'd like to have back.
In a search to see what I could do about it (my best bet is, and I will try when it arrives, swapping the circuit board with one from an identical HD), I came across this, which made me laugh.

Janet feels your pain. Happened to her about six months ago.
and it just happened to us. lost about 30gig of anime on a secondary drive. the heat this week drove the poor thing to suicide.
